Aluminium combines lightweight, high strength, easy workability, and acceptable costs in one package. Aluminium is lighter and more durable than both steel and fiberglass, allowing for a ship that is faster, more fuel efficient and able to survive longer the rigors of ocean voyages and the test of time. One of the great advantages of aluminum is that it requires very little maintenance. The unpainted metal reacts with air to form aluminium oxide, a hard protective coating that protects the underlying metal. Considerable savings can be achieved by not painting the aluminium hull or the inside of the yacht, leaving the aluminium exposed.
